January 2017 - Program Development & Training Officer

Major projects completed –

AmeriCorps Opioid Initiative: Hosted planning meeting with 32 stakeholders which resulted in the intervention design and initial logic model for the potential application.  In addition I met with various stakeholders regarding the ir level of involvement over the course of the month and identified a potential legal applicant. 

Service Enterprise: Met with Dempsey Center and with Midcoast Hunger Prevention to review SE Diagnostic results and began 6 week training session for these two cohort members (with the addition of staff from the Cancer Community Center).

AmeriCorps Affiliate: Began outreach for new AmeriCorps program, including design of outreach strategy and identification of potential applicants, with emphasis on school systems likely to support summer or school year student volunteer programs and organizations already utilizing volunteer teams.

Service Year Impact Communities: Began discussions with Town of Bucksport and with Waterville United Way on how Service year might fit with local community economic development plans.  Also provided information to Portland and to Bangor

Other outreach: Met with Maine Math & Science Alliance concerning development of summer STEM internship programming and how AmeriCorps structure could be utilized and how it might dovetail with the Affiliate program

Participated in setting up next online CMV session

Issues to be aware of –

Continuing discussions with MEMA and Donations Coordination Team regarding efficacy of current VolunteerMaine platform (Get Connected) for use in soliciting and managing donations of materials and of cash in times of disaster.  Platform has limited functionality, but there are few viable alternatives.  Will continue to research and seek increased functionality.

Major focus of effort in the new month –

Continue to facilitate Opioid Initiative planning with identified “Writing team”, including face to face meeting(s) and teleconference support for contracted support and sites

CMV and Service Enterprise training cohorts.

Support potential applicants to the new AC Affiliate program and provide technical assistance for mid-February deadline.

Finalize planning for Rural AmeriCorps structure and clarify usable funding levels within the AmeriCorps Formula pool followed by intensive outreach for the Rural AmeriCorps Initiative.

Begin planning for AmeriCorps Member Conference, scheduled for March 29th

Participate in training for new paperless contracting system to be introduced in March

Other activity –

Ongoing participation on conference planning team for National Service Regional Conference, scheduled for early June.

Regular AmeriCorps Technical Assistance to existing grantees via email, teleconference & face to face.

Staff support for E & E task Force

Support interviewing and onboarding of new Planning & Research Assoc.

Procurement system management and initial entry of financial documents in state purchasing system, including purchase orders, bids, and contracts.
